Schick Shadel Addiction Treatment Research

Addiction Treatment Research

Research indicates that among those who seek treatment for substance abuse, more than one-third will go into recovery for at least a year. But the timeline of a treatment program isn’t an indication of its effectiveness. In fact, the recovery timeline has long been the measuring stick for a program’s success, regardless of the substance treated.

In the past, addiction treatment centers were not required to prove that their programs were effective; nor were they required to show that they properly assessed whether patients needed inpatient versus outpatient treatment, implemented evidence-based treatment practices, or monitored patient outcomes. Fortunately, the field of substance abuse treatment has evolved to keep pace with the healthcare community at large, and addiction treatment facilities are now judged on outcome measures and accountability.

“Research to Practice”

Addiction treatment research, Schick Shadel HospitalFor the past seventy-five years, Schick Shadel Hospital has treated patients using the unique, evidence-based counter conditioning techniques pioneered by our founder, Charles Shadel. Research on counter conditioning constitutes one of the largest studies in the addiction field, and Schick Shadel Hospital lives by the mantra, “Research to Practice.”

Our claim of a #1 Success Rate* for Alcohol Abuse Treatment is based on the verified findings of an independent survey of former patients compared to published success rates from verified, comparable studies of other medical institutions. We’re proud of our success in helping thousands of men and women (approximately 7 out of 10 patients) recover from addiction and restart their lives.

*Based on results of a verified, independent survey of former patients (success being measured as total abstinence for one year and assessed by self-evaluation), as against published success rates from verified, comparable studies of other medical institutions.
